History

The Cooperative, the differentiation

In the magical corner of Somontano, where the hills embrace the vineyards and Barbastro becomes home, Bodega Pirineos emerges as a testament to the deep connection between the land and the community. Here, in the cradle of the Somontano de Sobrarbe Regional Cooperative, our legacy is born, crafted by the expertise of over a hundred viticulturists, rooted in the richness of some twenty picturesque villages.

Since 1964, when the cooperative planted the seeds of what is now the certificate of origin Somontano, up to our own founding in 1993, we have inherited a tradition that transcends the vines we cultivate across more than 700 hectares of vineyard, with over 150 viticulturists.

Situated in a privileged enclave, its microclimate and soil type allow us to produce wines from a wide diversity of white and red grapes, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Macabeo, Cabernet, and Tempranillo, among others. Thanks to these, we create our most emblematic wines: 3404, Alquézar Rosado, Pirineos Chardonnay, Pirineos Gewürztraminer, Marboré Cuvée, Señorío de Lazán, Montesierra, and Principio Moristel.

In 2007, we took a further step by joining the Barbadillo group, following their acquisition of 76% of Pirineos shares. Since then, we continue to commit to the territory, where quality, innovation, and history remain key players.

Social Commitmen

Respect for the land that gives us life.

Under this principle, we work with a steadfast commitment to sustainability and responsibility towards future generations, which is reflected in every sip of our wines. Pure essence of Somontano, which we uphold in our commitment to each R&D project.

Additionally, in 2002, we achieved the Sustainability Report from the Global Reporting Initiative of AENOR, and one of our goals is to work hard to prevent the disappearance of native grape varieties like the Moristel black grape in the area.

Since 2021, we renew the certification annually with the Social Responsibility of Aragon (RSA), granted by the Government of Aragon, which supports us in our commitment to the values of transparency, sustainability, and respect for the environment.

We would also like to thank the Pyrenees for lending their name to our winery. Thus, in an effort to mitigate the effects of climate change, we allocate part of the sales from our single-varietal wines to research on climate refuges in the mountain range. This work is done in collaboration with the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology (IPE) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

Nothing is enough to honor a legacy that transcends the production of exceptional wines.

Welcome to Bodega Pirineos, a tale of land and people!
